Learning methodology and Learning Needs Analysis

There are numerous diverse approaches to learning. At MIE, the team has researched and developed its own custom approach. Before we have  a look at that, here are some of the learning models that we have used as guiding principles towards the development of our approach.

  1. Action Learning- This approach to learning was developed by Reg Revans. It focuses upon what we don’t know. Within a group work-based problems are discussed and through sharing of experiences, action is suggested and solutions discussed. In this way learning from shared experience provides often-creative solutions for businesses and organisations.
  2. Andragogy – This approach to learning was developed by Knowles and defined as ‘the science and art of helping adults to learn’. Knowles defined andragogy as a theory of learning for adults as opposed to pedagogy, which focuses more consistently upon the learning of children.
  3. Experiential learning- This is a model of learning developed by David Kolb. This cycle suggests that there are four stages of adult learning: concrete experience, reflection, abstract conceptualisation and active experimentation.

The Learning and development approach at MIE is a simple Four-Step process. It is our guiding and practising philosophy in each learning and development project we undertake.  We call it OGLO

Accomplishing Step 1
Openness to explore
We firmly believe that Step 1 is accomplished when the participants decide to join our workshops. Structured interventions to create an open environment to learn are thus key to the design of each workshop. This helps surface the learning need in a more focused and sharp manner. It is proved that once the openness to explore learning is established, the participant feels more responsible towards his/her own learning and takes active interest in the group exercises.

Accomplishing Step 2
Guidance of an Expert
Years of cumulative experience of our principal faculty, coupled with ace facilitation skills make them one of the best in the industry and academia to deliver the sessions as Experts in the subject domains. The curriculum design and content has been benchmarked with the best. The faculty serve as Experts to guide you in your sessions with an exploratory approach to bring out the best in you.

Accomplishing Step 3
Learning by doing
Practice makes one perfect is an old saying.
Our Team believes in it with full passion. We have designed our workshops such that they provide a sound practice ground for learning new skills, tools and processes. Learning by doing is how adults learn. Practice sessions are an integral part of the design because in the presence of our expert faculty, one can learn the best way in which to deploy the learning.

Accomplishing Step 4
Opportunity to practice
The lives are complex and given abundant pressures from the competitive world of increasing expectations, we can often unlearn the new learning. Continuous application of new learning is important to retain the newly learnt tools and techniques. Our endeavour is to provide multiple opportunities for one to practice on an ongoing basis. Internet Forums, learning memberships are such initiatives to foster the robust foundation of new learning till the learner establishes it as a skill mastered.
